{"id":10931,"date":"2013-11-15T12:30:29","date_gmt":"2013-11-15T20:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janaremy.com\/pilgrimsteps\/?p=10931"},"modified":"2013-11-15T11:02:35","modified_gmt":"2013-11-15T19:02:35","slug":"just-one-step-at-at-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.janaremy.com\/pilgrimsteps\/2013\/11\/15\/just-one-step-at-at-time\/","title":{"rendered":"just one step at at time&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we went out shoe shopping recently, Catgirl and I took a rather odd detour from the parking structure to the shopping plaza.\u00a0 We went up the stairs and then up and down the wheelchair ramps twice.<\/p>\n<p><em>You walk so fast now<\/em>, she said.<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks into wearing my new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedom-innovations.com\/knees\/\" target=\"_blank\">Plie 2.0<\/a> robotic leg and I am, indeed, a faster walker than before.\u00a0 Particularly downhill&#8211;the mechanics and control algorithm for this new leg making downhills so smooth (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottobockus.com\/Prosthetics\/Lower-limb-prosthetics\/Solution-overview\/C-Leg-above-knee-system\/\" target=\"_blank\">c-legs<\/a>, on the other hand, are pretty choppy on the downhill).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to wearing the new knee, I&#8217;m also wearing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0095PZHPE\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B0095PZHPE&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=pilgrimgirl-20\">Fitbit<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=pilgrimgirl-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0095PZHPE\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> device to mark my number of steps and activity level.\u00a0 My graph over the past two weeks shows some pretty dramatic changes from where I was several months ago (my daily step average increasing from 3483 to 4819 since August):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janaremy.com\/pilgrimsteps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Screen-shot-2013-10-25-at-3.06.28-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10932\" alt=\"Screen shot 2013-10-25 at 3.06.28 PM\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janaremy.com\/pilgrimsteps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Screen-shot-2013-10-25-at-3.06.28-PM.png\" width=\"164\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve noticed only one small glitch with the new knee and that&#8217;s that when I have a long stretch of evenly-paced steps, after a few hundred paces it will hiccup a bit and I&#8217;ll end up dragging my toe for one step.\u00a0 I imagine that this is some kind of firmware bug that can be ironed out.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s a small glitch, and certainly livable except that it tends to affect my full trust of the limb (for the few steps after each hiccup I find myself reticent to put my full weight into a step).<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the new knee technology is even better than I imagined.
