{"id":4349,"date":"2012-01-14T14:30:11","date_gmt":"2012-01-14T22:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/janaremy.com\/?p=4349"},"modified":"2012-01-14T14:30:11","modified_gmt":"2012-01-14T22:30:11","slug":"escape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.janaremy.com\/pilgrimsteps\/2012\/01\/14\/escape\/","title":{"rendered":"escape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been a number of hard things happen this week.\u00a0 One of which is that Vasia-kitty* has a large open sore on his back&#8211;so large and deep that you can see his spine fairly clearly.\u00a0 On top of that he appears to have a type of cancer that&#8217;s causing bony growths on his spine (this still needs confirmation with a biopsy, but it&#8217;s fairly clear that&#8217;s what&#8217;s occurring).\u00a0 So I&#8217;m dealing with this wound and remembering so many of my own.\u00a0 I find bone cancer fascinating&#8211;the eruptions of tissue gone mad that build channels of bone into places where they shouldn&#8217;t be.\u00a0 But even while it&#8217;s scientifically intriguing to care for Vasia&#8217;s wound, I also can&#8217;t help but feel sick to the pit of my stomach as I see and feel what&#8217;s happening to his body and compare it to my own experience with bone cancer, and remember the time I spent tracing the unusual tumor-contours of my right knee before my leg was amputated.<\/p>\n<p>As I contemplated the emotional drain that it&#8217;s been to deal with his ailment (added to these other personal stresses that include fighting the flu all week long), I realized just how badly I wanted to get away for awhile (again).\u00a0 I found myself reviewing my calendar for the next few weeks and strategizing a way to squeeze in a roadtrip.\u00a0 I then started thinking of friends that I could visit on the way and began to make a mental list of people to email to see if they were around&#8230;Within a few minutes of thinking along those lines, I had a fairly well-developed plan.<\/p>\n<p>But then I remembered my commitment to <a href=\"http:\/\/janaremy.com\/2012\/01\/01\/looking-forwards-and-backwards\/\" target=\"_blank\">slow down a bit this year<\/a>.\u00a0 To not be so eager to throw a bag in the car and hit the road.\u00a0 I want to do that, but there&#8217;s just something about traveling that clears my head and renews my spirit&#8230;when things are hard, I just want to <em>go<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to try to stay put for awhile instead, but something tells me that I&#8217;ll probably be behind the wheel and squinting into the sun over the dashboard soon enough.<\/p>\n<p>*<em>Vasia isn&#8217;t my cat&#8211;I&#8217;ve been caring for him while his owner gets settled into a new home overseas.\u00a0 He&#8217;ll be winging his way to the UK within a few days, so I won&#8217;t be involved in his ongoing treatment.<\/em><br \/>\n<a title=\"IMG_5734 by pilgrimgirl, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pilgrimgirl\/6110234181\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6210\/6110234181_1318f7589f.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5734\" width=\"421\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been a number of hard things happen this week.\u00a0 One of which is that Vasia-kitty* has a large open sore on his back&#8211;so large and deep that you can see his spine fairly clearly.\u00a0 On top of that he appears to have a type of cancer that&#8217;s causing bony growths on his spine [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4351,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[25,12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4349","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-body","category-deep-thoughts"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.7 -
